Through observation of the use different chairs in a cafe setting, it
was decided to design the chair from the perspective of the cafe workers
and barristas who are engaged with the daily movement, cleaning and
clearing away of chairs within this environment.
The chair leg is detailed with a fifty three degree chamfer that invites
the user to prop it up against a table for cleaning. This detail gives
the aesthetic of the chair leg disappearing into the floor, whilst the
3/4 dipped leg emphasises this functional detail.
Chair 53 is designed with a seat pan that falls short of the back of the
chair. The chamfered back rail enables the user to grab, lift and
invert the chair with ease. The chair has a moderate footprint and is
stackable.
